Xilitla
Xilitla is a mystical destination hidden in the heart of the Huasteca Potosina rainforest, famous for its surrealist garden Las Pozas. Created by the eccentric British artist Edward James, this concrete sculpture garden blends organically with lush nature, waterfalls, and natural pools. Visitors come here to lose themselves in a dream world where stairs lead nowhere and columns rise into the tropical sky. The town itself maintains a relaxed atmosphere with steep streets and the aroma of organic coffee. In addition to surrealist art, the area provides incredible nature experiences, from exploring caves to swimming in crystal-clear waterfalls. Local gastronomy is defined by Huasteca flavors, such as zacahuil, a giant oven-cooked tamale. The best time to visit is from November to March to avoid the extreme heat and torrential summer rains. Xilitla is accessible via spectacular mountain roads from San Luis Potosí or Querétaro, providing memorable scenery throughout the journey.
