Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexico)

Weather…

The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the spiritual heart of Mexico and one of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world, hosting approximately 20 million pilgrims annually. Located at the foot of Tepeyac Hill in Mexico City, the complex features a striking architectural contrast that tells the story of the nation's faith. The Old Basilica, a Baroque masterpiece dating back to the late 17th century, is renowned for its ornate facade but has suffered significant structural tilting due to the city's soft volcanic soil. This led to the construction of the New Basilica, consecrated in 1976, which features a revolutionary circular design by Pedro Ramírez Vázquez. The modern interior can seat 10,000 people and provides an unobstructed view of the sacred tilma (cloak) of Juan Diego, which bears the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary. Surrounding the basilicas are beautifully landscaped gardens and smaller chapels that mark the sites of the reported Marian apparitions of 1531.
