The palace was located within the formidable defensive walls known as the Tata of Sikasso, which once stretched over 9 kilometers in length. As the administrative and military nerve center of the kingdom, the palace was the site from which Traoré organized resistance against invaders like Samori Ture. Although much of the original mud-brick architecture has eroded over time, the site remains a powerful symbol of 19th-century African statecraft and resilience. The design reflected the Sudano-Sahelian architectural tradition, utilizing sun-dried bricks and wooden supports. Today, memorials and remnants of the fortifications serve as reminders of Sikasso's strategic role as a defensive bastion. The location is highly regarded by the local population as a cornerstone of their cultural and historical heritage.
