Mount Sikasso (Mali)

Weather…

The mountainous region around Sikasso in southernmost Mali is characterized by its lush vegetation and prominent sandstone plateaus. These elevations are geologically part of the Precambrian formations that constitute the West African Shield, rising steeply from the surrounding savanna landscape. Thanks to the high rainfall in this region, numerous streams flow from the slopes, making Sikasso the most fertile garden area of Mali. Historically, the area is closely linked with the Kénédougou Kingdom; the strategic location of the hills was utilized in the 19th century to construct the famous 'Tata', a massive defensive wall. Culturally, certain rock formations are considered sacred sites by the Senufo community, who hold traditional ceremonies here. The flora includes dense gallery forests along watercourses and extensive fruit orchards on the lower slopes. Today, the highlands serve as a significant recreational area and offer spectacular views over the regional valleys.
