- The climate is more humid than the north; bring mosquito repellent, especially during the rainy season.
🍽 Food
A filling, dough-like paste made from millet or sorghum, dipped in a slimy but flavorful okra sauce at small "maquis".
Freshwater fish brought in from the rivers, usually fried or cooked in a rich onion and tomato sauce.
If you visit between April and June, you'll find the local markets overflowing with incredibly sweet and cheap mangoes.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
As a cotton-producing hub, you can find locally spun thread and simple fabrics in the central market.
Browse the stalls selling raw agricultural products, including large calabashes and unrefined shea butter.
Take a walk towards the outskirts to see the vast, quiet cotton fields that surround the town.
After the intense heat of the day, the central areas become peacefully social as locals sit outside to converse.
