Gourmangslee Nature Reserve (Luxembourg)

Weather…

The Gourmangslee Nature Reserve spans the municipalities of Fischbach and Junglinster in eastern Luxembourg. Officially protected in 2017, it comprises a diverse topography of steep forested slopes and open meadow valleys along the White Ernz River. Particularly valuable are the calcareous beech forests and orchid-rich beech woods that thrive on the region's muschelkalk soils. The geological formations provide high site diversity, offering convenient conditions for rare plant species such as the lady's slipper orchid. The area is an important part of the European Natura 2000 network and serves to protect specific habitat types of community interest. Through targeted forestry restrictions, the development of old-growth structures is promoted, benefiting woodpecker species and bats. Gourmangslee represents the typical low mountain landscape of the Gutland with its high ecological connectivity.
