The Robertsport Coastal Reserve in northwestern Liberia protects a 50 km stretch of Atlantic shoreline characterized by sandy beaches, rocky headlands, and coastal lagoons. It is a critical nesting site for leatherback and olive ridley turtles, with an average of 200 nests per season. However, overfishing and global warming threaten the coral ecosystems. The reserve was officially gazetted in 2010, but enforcement remains weak. Best season
The best time to visit is during the drier months, roughly from November to March, when sea turtles nest. Early in the nesting season, you may also see migratory birds.
Best time of day
Late evening and early morning are prime times to observe turtles coming ashore. Dawn provides calm seas for birdwatching and coastal walks.
Etiquette
Do not disturb nesting turtles or use flashlights. Maintain a distance of at least 10 meters, and never feed or touch the wildlife.
What to bring
Bring binoculars for spotting seabirds and turtles offshore. Wear sturdy, water-resistant shoes for walking on sand and rocks.

The reserve is reached via a dirt road from Robertsport town. A 4×4 vehicle is advisable, especially after rain.

Sea turtle sightings require patience and often overnight waits. Even during peak season, sightings are not guaranteed, so enjoy the coastal scenery.
