Zirņi Manor (Latvia)

Weather…

Zirņi Manor, situated in the Saldus municipality, historically functioned as the administrative heart of a prominent agricultural estate in Courland. The manor is closely associated with the von Behr family, a noble Baltic German dynasty that influenced the region's development for centuries. Throughout the 19th century, the manor house and its outbuildings underwent several renovations to balance residential prestige with the demands of a large-scale farming operation. The estate was noted for its progressive livestock breeding and innovative crop management. Despite the unrest of the 1905 Revolution and the disruptions of World War I, the core architectural elements survived. Following the 1920 agrarian reform in Latvia, the estate was divided, and the manor house transitioned to serve various local community functions. Today, Zirņi serves as a testament to the historical manor system's impact on the rural landscape and social structure of Kurzeme.
