Puze is a historic parish in northern Courland, widely recognized for Lake Puzes and the legacy of the former Puze Estate. The settlement was first recorded in 1253 within the documents of the Livonian Order and grew into a significant aristocratic hub over the centuries. The Puze Manor, which reached its zenith during the 18th and 19th centuries, was long held by prominent Baltic German families, most notably the von Behrs. The local Lutheran church, erected in 1776, is a notable architectural monument featuring exquisite Baroque interior decorations. Geographically, the region is defined by dense woodlands and numerous waterways, with Lake Puzes, covering over 5 square kilometers, serving as the landscape's focal point. The parish economy has traditionally centered on forestry and agriculture, while lakeside tourism has seen increasing development in recent decades.
