The Alksne Hill is a prominent relief feature located in the North Kurzeme Upland within the Talsi Municipality of western Latvia. Rising to an elevation of approximately 64 meters above sea level, it represents a significant glacial formation created during the retreat of the Scandinavian ice sheet roughly 12,000 years ago. The hill is characterized by its moraine structure, consisting of a mix of sand, gravel, and clay deposited by moving glaciers. Surrounding the hill are dense coniferous and mixed forests, which contribute to the ecological diversity of the region. Historically, such elevations in Kurzeme often served as landmarks or sites for ancient Baltic settlements, although Alksne Hill remains primarily a natural geographical feature today. Its slopes influence local hydrology, directing runoff into the small streams that feed the larger river basins of the Talsi district. The modern landscape around the hill is used for forestry and limited agriculture, maintaining a tranquil and preserved environment.
