Daraut-Korgon Fortress

The Daraut-Korgon Fortress is a significant historical monument in the Alay Valley, showcasing 19th-century military architecture from the Kokand Khanate era. Built at a strategic altitude of 2,460 meters, it functioned as a vital border outpost and customs station for trade caravans moving between the Fergana Valley and Kashgar in China. The fortress was constructed using sun-dried mud bricks and local stones, materials that allowed it to blend seamlessly into the rugged mountain landscape. During the "Great Game", the geopolitical struggle for supremacy in Central Asia between the British and Russian Empires, Daraut-Korgon served as a critical observation point monitoring the high mountain passes.
