Sheikh Khazal Palace Ruins (Kuwait)

Weather…

The ruins of Sheikh Khazal's Palace in Kuwait City are the remnants of an ambitious project by a powerful regional ruler. Sheikh Khazal al-Ka'bi, the Emir of Mohammerah (present-day Khorramshahr in Iran), had the palace built in 1916. It served as his residence and political headquarters in Kuwait, reflecting his close ties with the ruling Al-Sabah family and his strategic interests in the region. The architecture was a unique blend of Persian stylistic elements and local building traditions. After Sheikh Khazal's downfall in 1925, the palace gradually fell into disrepair. Though a ruin today, it remains an important historical monument. It recalls an era of complex political alliances on the eve of the formation of modern nation-states in the Middle East and the formidable power once wielded by Sheikh Khazal.
