Dickson House (Kuwait)

Weather…

The Dickson House is a prominent cultural landmark in Kuwait City that once served as the official residence of the British Political Agent, Colonel Harold Dickson, and his wife, Violet Dickson. Originally constructed in the late 19th century for a Kuwaiti merchant, the house was later leased by the British government in 1929. It stands as one of the few surviving examples of colonial-era architecture in Kuwait, featuring traditional mud-brick construction integrated with British-style wooden verandas. Harold Dickson served as the political agent from 1929 to 1936, and his wife, fondly known as 'Umm Kuwait' (Mother of Kuwait), resided in the house for over 60 years until the Iraqi invasion in 1990. Following restoration by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, the building now functions as a museum. Its galleries showcase historical photographs, personal memorabilia, and archives that document the long-standing diplomatic ties between Kuwait and the United Kingdom.
