Kuwait Water Towers (Kuwait)

Weather…

The Kuwait Water Towers are a collection of 33 mushroom-shaped towers scattered across the capital, serving as iconic examples of modern industrial architecture. Built between 1970 and 1976, these towers were designed to address the water storage and distribution challenges of a rapidly growing city. The project was executed by the Swedish architectural firm VBB (Björn & Björn) under the direction of Sune Lindström. Arranged in distinct clusters, each tower has a storage capacity of 3,000 cubic meters of fresh water. Their futuristic appearance, featuring bold vertical stripes and slender concrete supports, earned the project the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1980. Beyond their primary function as water reservoirs, the towers have become significant landmarks that define Kuwait's urban skyline. They represent the successful fusion of high-quality design with essential public infrastructure, symbolizing the nation's technological advancement during the mid-20th century.
