Beit Al-Badr (Kuwait)

Weather…

Beit Al-Badr is one of the finest examples of traditional Kuwaiti architecture from the pre-oil era. It was constructed between 1837 and 1847 for the prominent Al-Badr merchant family. The house is structured around several courtyards, designated for different functions such as receptions (Diwaniya), family life (Harem), and service areas. The architecture is characterized by the use of sea rocks, mudbricks, and intricately carved wooden doors and window screens (Mashrabiya). In 1968, the house was donated to the state and later became part of the Kuwait National Museum complex. Today, it houses the Museum of Kuwaiti Cultural Heritage, displaying traditional crafts, costumes, and scenes of daily life, offering an authentic glimpse into 19th-century Kuwaiti society.
