Jahra Gate (Kuwait)

Weather…

The Jahra Gate, or 'Bab Al-Jahra', is one of the three surviving gates of Kuwait City's third defensive wall, built in 1920. This wall was constructed in great haste following the Battle of Hamdh to protect the city from further attacks by Ikhwan tribes. The gate was strategically oriented to the west, towards the village of Jahra and the main caravan routes. It was built from mudbrick and gypsum and was part of a 6.4-kilometer fortification system with several watchtowers. Although most of the wall was demolished in 1957 to make way for modern urban development, the three main gates were preserved and restored. The Jahra Gate now stands as a monument to a crucial period in Kuwaiti history when the city-state's sovereignty was at stake.
