Bomas of Kenya (Kenya)

Weather…

Bomas of Kenya is a cultural centre located in Lang'ata, Nairobi, established by the government in 1971 to preserve and showcase the rich heritage of Kenya's diverse ethnic groups. The word 'Boma' is Swahili for homestead. The centre features authentic replicas of traditional villages belonging to the country's 42 officially recognized ethnic communities. Visitors can walk through these architectural reconstructions, gaining insight into the varying building styles, materials, and social structures of each group. A major highlight is the large auditorium, one of the largest theatres in Africa, which hosts daily performances of traditional music and dance. The resident Harambee Dancers perform over 50 different traditional dances, representing significant life events such as weddings, initiations, and harvests. In addition to the cultural performances, the site has acrobatic shows and craft markets displaying local artistry. Bomas of Kenya serves as a living museum and plays a vital role in fostering national unity and cultural pride among Kenyans and visitors.
