Chuka is a prosperous town in Tharaka-Nithi County, picturesquely situated on the eastern slopes of Mount Kenya. The town serves as the commercial and cultural hub for the Chuka people, a sub-group of the Meru community, and is renowned for its high agricultural productivity. Benefiting from fertile volcanic soils and consistent rainfall, the region is a major producer of high-quality coffee, tea, and bananas. A significant milestone in the town's recent development was the establishment of Chuka University, which has rapidly grown into one of central Kenya's premier academic institutions, significantly boosting the local economy and urban growth.
