Doge's Palace (Italy)

Weather…

The Doge's Palace, Palazzo Ducale in Italian, is an opulent palace built in Venetian Gothic style, and one of the main landmarks of the city of Venice. It was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Republic of Venice. The palace served as the seat of government, the palace of justice, and the official residence of the Doge for over 1,000 years. Its current form is the result of extensive rebuilding from the 14th to the 16th centuries, following earlier fortifications. The iconic facade features a two-tiered loggia design which, despite its apparent lightness, supports the massive walls above. Inside, the palace houses grand halls adorned with artwork by masters such as Tintoretto, Veronese, and Titian, including the vast Sala del Maggior Consiglio (Hall of the Great Council). A famous feature is the Bridge of Sighs, an enclosed bridge connecting the palace to the New Prison, which provided the last view of Venice for convicts before their imprisonment. Today, the palace is a museum and an essential part of the Venetian identity.
