💡 Tips
- Walk or cycle the Pista Ciclabile, a beautiful path along the former coastal railway track connecting to Varazze.
- Look for the commemorative plaque on the house that locals claim as the true birthplace of Christopher Columbus.
- Beaches here are mostly rocky and pebbly; bringing water shoes will make swimming much more comfortable.
- Use the regional trains from Genoa for a stress-free trip, as the station is right in the town center.
- Park in the designated areas away from the seafront during summer weekends to avoid heavy traffic and fees.
🍽 Food
Classic, oily Ligurian flatbread. Grab a freshly baked slice from any historical 'panificio' in the center.
The quintessential Ligurian pasta. Enjoy it with authentic Genovese basil pesto at a seafront trattoria.
Mixed fried seafood catch, best enjoyed at casual fish restaurants along the coastal promenade.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Delicate, sweet olive oil from the region. Buy it at local grocers or specialized food shops.
Authentic pesto to take home. Look for jars made with local DOP basil in the town's delis.
The coastal pathway leading out of town features quiet, scenic spots overlooking the sea, especially at sunrise.
Head into the hills just behind the town for peaceful nature walks and regional park scenery.

Cogoleto is a coastal municipality in the Metropolitan City of Genoa, located along the Riviera di Ponente. It claims a historical connection as the possible birthplace of the explorer Christopher Columbus, with a 15th-century house in the center dedicated to his memory. The seafront is characterized by a long promenade and a continuous stretch of sand and pebbles. Central bathing areas include "Spiaggia libera dalla chiesa" and "Spiaggia dei Pescatori". The town is connected to neighboring Arenzano via a scenic pedestrian and cycle path, built over an abandoned railway line right above the sea. Outside the immediate center, the coastline becomes more rugged. Beaches such as "Cala Loca", "Cala Torcida", and "Punta San Martino" offer smaller coves tucked under the cliffs. The western edge near the Arrestra river features the "Spiaggia Libera dell'Arrestra", marking the border with the province of Savona.
