Getting there
The lake can usually be reached by car from the bustling city of Thessaloniki and surrounding towns. Long unpaved agricultural dirt roads often lead much closer to the actual water's marshy edge.
Best season
Bird migration seasons in spring and autumn are the absolutely most rewarding times for nature enthusiasts. Winter can also offer extremely interesting sightings of rare migratory waterfowl species.
Terrain & paths
The immediate surroundings of the lake are generally completely flat, consisting of sprawling wetlands, agricultural fields, and dirt tracks. Walking is relatively easy but can be excessively muddy.
What to bring
