Amaliada is a modern commercial hub in the fertile plain of Elis, in northwestern Peloponnese. Named after Queen Amalia of Greece, the town has a planned layout with wide streets and squares. It is the economic heart of a region famous for its agricultural products, such as olive oil, citrus fruits, and watermelons. The city itself is animated with life, featuring numerous shops, cafes, and tavernas that attract both locals and visitors. Amaliada's main draw is its strategic location. It is a stone's throw away from the remarkable sandy beaches of Kourouta and Palouki, which are popular summer destinations. More importantly, it serves as an excellent base for exploring the ancient site of Elis, the city-state that organized the ancient Olympic Games, as well as the world-renowned archaeological site of Olympia, a short drive away. Getting there is easy via the port of Patras or Araxos Airport (GPA), both within reasonable distance. Culinarily, visitors can enjoy fresh seafood, local wines, and the region's exceptional olive oil. The best time to visit is from May to October, when the weather is sunny and the sea is well-suited for swimming.
