A remarkable feature is the monkey cemetery, where deceased animals are laid to rest with ceremonial burials. The area was officially placed under state protection in 1975 to ensure the conservation of the populations and the forest ecosystem. The dry season from November to April is good, as monkeys are more easily seen in trees along the paths and trails are drier. In the rainy season (May-October) animals can still be observed, but paths are muddy and visibility is limited by heavy rain.

Early morning monkeys are most active, leaping through the trees in search of food after night rest. Late afternoon, just before dusk, is also good for watching many animals preparing for the night.

Never feed the monkeys - even if they beg, human food can harm them and encourage aggressive behavior. Do not touch the animals and maintain a respectful distance of at least 3 meters.

What to bring
Binoculars are not strictly necessary as monkeys often come very close, but they are useful for detailed observation. Comfortable closed‑toe shoes are recommended as the ground may be uneven and African ants are present.

Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary is located in central Ghana, about 20 kilometers south of Techiman. It is reachable from Accra in about four hours by car via the N8; the last stretch is on a dirt road.
