One of the highlights of the city calendar, usually on the third June weekend, with live music, show programs, park tours, culinary offerings and over 100 stalls.
Elegantly situated in the valley of the Weiße Elster river, Greiz rightfully bears the proud title of the "Pearl of the Vogtland." The former royal residence of the Principality of Reuss impresses visitors with an extraordinary density of architectural masterpieces and historic parks. High up on a striking rocky promontory, the formidable Upper Castle (Oberes Schloss) watches over the town, offering wide-open panoramic views of the river valley. Down below, directly on the riverbank, the neoclassical Lower Castle (Unteres Schloss) blends gracefully into the urban landscape. An absolute must-see is the expansive Greiz Park, a true masterpiece of English landscape garden design, featuring the scenic Summer Palace (Sommerpalais) at its heart. Today, this palace houses a significant collection of caricatures and historical book art. Strolling through the lovingly restored old town, with its magnificent Art Nouveau facades and welcoming cafes, you can still feel the town's rich textile history, having once been world-famous for its fine woven fabrics. Greiz is a cultural gem that enchantingly combines princely splendor, green oases, and living history.
