Völklingen Ironworks (Germany)

Weather…

The Völklingen Ironworks in Saarland is a globally unique industrial monument and, in 1994, became the first industrial site from the golden age of the iron and steel industry to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The vast site covers all phases of pig iron production and provides visitors with an impressive insight into the working world of past decades. Following its closure in 1986, the plant remained almost completely intact and has since been transformed into a fascinating venue for exhibitions and cultural events. A particularly spectacular experience is the climb to the charging platform at a height of 45 meters, offering a wide view over the works and the town of Völklingen. The facility also houses the world's first large-scale sinter plant, which represents a milestone in the history of industrial technology. Today, the ironworks blends the raw charm of rusted steel with modern art, serving as a monument to Europe's industrial development.
