Weather…

The Saarschleife near Mettlach is the most famous landmark of Saarland and a geological feature of supra-regional importance. Over millions of years, the Saar river has carved deep into the hard quartzite rock here, creating an almost complete hair-pin turn. The Cloef viewpoint is situated about 180 meters above the water level and provides the characteristic panoramic view of the valley. Since 2016, a spectacular treetop walk has expanded the tourist attractions, featuring an observation tower that gives an even more comprehensive view of the surrounding Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park landscape. Historically, the site has been visited by many prominent figures, including Prussian King Frederick William IV. The entire region around the Saar Loop is designated as a nature reserve and is home to rare plants and birds of prey. Hiking trails like the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig run directly along the rocky edges, allowing visitors to experience the untouched nature of the Saar valley. The formation is a symbol of the geological power of water and the natural beauty of the border region.
