Goch is a historic town in the Lower Rhine region of North Rhine-Westphalia, situated near the Dutch border. As a former member of the Hanseatic League, it played a key role in medieval trade, a history still visible in landmarks like the Steintor, a massive 14th-century gatehouse. The town is most famous as the birthplace of Saint Arnold Janssen, the founder of the Society of the Divine Word, making it a significant site for religious pilgrimage. Today, Goch is a peaceful yet economically active center, benefiting from its strategic location for cross-border logistics and retail. The surrounding landscape, featuring the Niers river and the vast Reichswald forest, has extensive opportunities for cycling and hiking. It remains a cultural hub for the Kleve district, offering a high quality of life with a blend of tradition and modern amenities, such as the Museum Goch and the Goli Theater.
