Westerstede is located in the heart of Ammerland in Lower Saxony and is known far beyond regional borders as a garden city. The geographical location favored the creation of a unique cultural landscape characterized by the world's highest density of tree nurseries. Especially in May, the city transforms into a sea of blossoms when the countless rhododendrons and azaleas bloom. The historic center is clustered around the 12th-century St. Peter's Church with its striking separate bell tower. Economically, in addition to the green sector, Westerstede is significant as a health center with the Ammerland Clinic and the Bundeswehr Hospital.
