Puchheim is an animated city located in the Fürstenfeldbruck district of Upper Bavaria, situated directly on the western outskirts of Munich. The city's history is uniquely split between the original agricultural village of Puchheim-Ort and the modern development of Puchheim-Bahnhof, which flourished after the railway arrived in the late 19th century. A pivotal moment in its past was the establishment of one of Germany's first civilian airfields in 1910, making it a cradle of Bavarian aviation history. During World War I, the site was transformed into a large prisoner-of-war camp, a legacy still visible in local memorial sites. Following World War II, the population surged as many displaced persons settled here, leading to its official elevation to city status in 2011. Modern Puchheim is a key economic player in the Munich metropolitan region, boasting a large industrial estate that houses numerous medium-sized enterprises and high-tech firms, while maintaining excellent public transport links to the nearby Bavarian capital.
