Wehr is located in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg at the transition from the High Rhine to the Southern Black Forest. The town looks back on a long industrial tradition, which was favored above all by the hydropower of the Wehra river. As early as the 19th century, a significant center of textile manufacturing developed here, shaping the cityscape and social structure for decades. Today, Wehr is a modern economic location with companies in the pharmaceutical, electronics, and mechanical engineering sectors. Geographically, the town marks the entrance to the impressive Wehra Valley, a deeply incised gorge considered one of the most important nature reserves in the region. Architecturally, the town is characterized by a mix of historic factory sites and modern residential areas, while the Bärenfels ruins high above the valley bear witness to medieval lordship.
