Here, groundnuts from surrounding farms in the Central River Region are delivered, weighed, and prepared for further transit. The Kaur Groundnut Depot in Gambia is a historically significant river port and collection point for groundnuts. From here, groundnuts are loaded onto barges for transport to Banjul.
Visiting
The depot grounds are normally not open to visitors as it is an active transshipment point. From the riverbank, however, one can clearly see the dock and the storage sheds.
Where to view it
A good viewpoint is the opposite riverbank, from which the entire loading process and ship activity can be observed. The bridge upstream also provides an elevated view of the depot.
