Mount Milondo is one of the most distinctive peaks within the Chaillu Massif in southern Gabon, reaching an elevation of approximately 1,020 meters. It is situated in a region renowned for its dense, often pristine primary rainforests that span across the Ngounié and Ogooué-Lolo provinces. The mountain plays a significant ecological role as a barrier to moving air masses, resulting in high local rainfall that supports exceptionally lush vegetation. Scientifically, Mount Milondo is of interest because it represents an ecotone between different forest types. It provides habitat for numerous primates, including gorillas and mandrills, and supports a high diversity of insect species, many of which are yet to be fully documented. For local communities, the mountain remains a traditional source of medicinal plants and other forest resources. Its geological structure consists primarily of hard crystalline rocks, which have given the peak its characteristic rugged silhouette.
