Sarrians is situated in the fertile plain of Comtat Venaissin within the Vaucluse department. The history of the town is deeply intertwined with that of the Papacy in Avignon, as it remained part of the Papal States for several centuries. The architecture of the town center still reflects this significant past, with buildings dating back to the Middle Ages. Geographically, Sarrians benefits from its proximity to the Ouvèze River, which allowed for the development of a flourishing agricultural sector. Today, the town is a major center for fruit and vegetable production, particularly famous for its strawberries and high-quality wines produced under the Ventoux appellation. The community has successfully maintained its authentic Provençal charm while developing modern infrastructure to accommodate its growing population. For visitors, Sarrians has a handy starting point for exploring the surrounding vineyards and the nearby mountain ranges like the Dentelles de Montmirail, providing an excellent blend of rural tranquility and historical richness.
