Meyreuil is located in the heart of Provence, just a few kilometers southeast of Aix-en-Provence. The landscape is dominated by the striking profile of the Montagne Sainte-Victoire, which inspired Paul Cézanne to create numerous masterpieces. Historically, Meyreuil was shaped by mining for decades; the region's lignite deposits were intensively mined here. A relic of this era is the prominent headframe of the 'Y' shaft, which today serves as an industrial monument defining the cityscape. Following the end of mining, the municipality has successfully transformed and is now an attractive residential area with modern business parks. The architecture in the old village core (Le Village) preserves the charm of Provence with its ochre-colored houses and shaded squares. Economically, Meyreuil benefits from its location in the technological triangle between Aix, Marseille, and the Cadarache nuclear research center. The surrounding area provides excellent opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking and climbing at Sainte-Victoire. Culinarily, the town is embedded in Provençal traditions, with local olive oil and wines from the Côtes de Provence appellation. Meyreuil maintains an active community life and preserves Provençal traditions through regular festivals.
