Segré, located in the northern part of the Maine-et-Loire department, is a town defined by its industrial resilience and its riverine geography. Built at the confluence of the Verzée and Oudon rivers, the town features a series of bridges and stone quays that contribute to its distinctive atmosphere. For over a century, Segré was a vital pillar of the French mining industry, specifically focused on iron ore extraction from the Ferrières mines. This industrial era left a lasting mark on the town's urban fabric and its social heritage. Today, as a sub-prefecture, it serves as the administrative heart of the 'Anjou Bleu' region, a name inspired by the blue slate found in the local quarries. The modern town has successfully diversified its economy, becoming a regional hub for manufacturing and services. With its rich historical center, active cultural life, and strategic position between Angers and Rennes, Segré remains a key representative of the historical and economic dynamism of the Anjou region.
