Beaupréau is a significant town in the Maine-et-Loire department, serving as a regional hub within the Pays de la Loire region. Set along the banks of the Èvre River, its geography is characterized by the rolling hills of the Mauges. The town gained international prominence during the 19th and early 20th centuries as a powerhouse of the footwear industry, which employed a vast portion of the local population. This industrial heritage is still visible in the architecture of former factory buildings and workers' housing. Beyond industry, Beaupréau has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, evidenced by its castle, which was originally a defensive fortress. Since 2015, Beaupréau has become the heart of the new commune Beaupréau-en-Mauges, a merger of several villages reflecting modern administrative consolidation. Today, the town is a center for education and services, hosting several colleges and healthcare facilities. Its economy has transitioned toward varied manufacturing and services, while maintaining strong ties to the surrounding agricultural landscape.
