Albi Cathedral (France)

Weather…

Albi Cathedral is recognized as the largest brick-built cathedral in the world. Constructed between 1282 and 1480, it serves as a premier example of Southern Gothic architecture. The cathedral was built following the Albigensian Crusade against the Cathars, and its fortress-like exterior was designed to project the power of the Catholic Church. Its massive brick walls and towering 78-meter bell tower give it a formidable appearance. In striking contrast, the interior is lavishly decorated with intricate Italian Renaissance frescoes and one of the largest Last Judgment paintings in Europe. Since 2010, the cathedral has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, forming part of the Episcopal City of Albi alongside the nearby Palais de la Berbie.
