Malemort-sur-Corrèze is the historical core and namesake of the city of Malemort, newly formed in 2016. The town is strategically positioned in the southwest of the Corrèze department, within the fertile Brive basin. For centuries, the Corrèze River was the town's lifeline, powering mills and supporting a prosperous agricultural sector. During the Middle Ages, Malemort was a significant fortified site, a legacy still visible today in the remnants of city walls and its characteristic stone buildings. The Saint-Xantin church, an architectural jewel of the region, speaks to the town's historical spiritual importance. From the 19th century onwards, industrialization transformed the settlement into a modern suburb of Brive-la-Gaillarde. Today, the urban landscape is characterized by a blend of historical heritage and contemporary commercial and residential districts, providing a high quality of life and making Malemort one of the region's most dynamic locations.
