Lascaux IV, also known as the International Centre for Cave Art, is a complete and precise replica of the original Lascaux cave in southwestern France. The original cave, discovered in 1940, houses some of the most significant Paleolithic wall paintings in the world, dating back approximately 17,000 years. Due to damage caused by carbon dioxide and humidity, the original was closed to the public in 1963. Lascaux IV, opened in 2016, utilizes cutting-edge digital technology to faithfully reproduce the cave experience, including temperature, humidity, and acoustics. Visitors can admire over 600 paintings and 1,500 engravings, including the famous 'Hall of the Bulls.' The center is located at the foot of the Lascaux hill in Montignac and has interactive exhibitions on prehistoric art and culture. The reconstruction was carried out with millimeter-precision to perfectly mimic the texture of the rock and the pigments used by Stone Age artists.
