Geographically, it is located in the midst of the extensive Rambouillet forest area. A historical highlight of the town is its role in supplying water to the gardens of Versailles in the 17th century; the Étang du Perray was part of the complex network of canals and ponds built for Louis XIV. The town originally developed as an important coaching inn station on the road between Paris and Chartres. Today, Le Perray is a sought-after residential community that combines the preservation of its natural surroundings with modern infrastructure. The architecture is characterized by traditional houses made of local sandstone, giving the town an authentic French village feel despite being part of the Paris metropolitan area.
