Rueil-Malmaison is an elegant city in the Hauts-de-Seine department, west of Paris. It is inseparably linked to French history of the early 19th century, particularly to Emperor Napoléon I and his wife Joséphine de Beauharnais. The Château de Malmaison, from which the city takes its name, served as the couple's private retreat and was the seat of the French government between 1800 and 1802. Joséphine lived here until her death in 1814 and is buried in the local church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul. Beyond its imperial past, Rueil-Malmaison has developed into a major economic hub. In the Rueil-sur-Seine district (formerly known as Rueil 2000), numerous multinational companies have their headquarters. The city features a harmonious blend of historical charm, modern office complexes, and expansive green spaces such as the Bois-Préau park. The proximity to the Seine and the preserved impressionist landscapes along the river contribute to the city's appeal as a high-end residential area.
