Seclin is a bustling city located in the heart of the Melantois region, just south of Lille in the Nord department, boasting a rich history that dates back to antiquity. The town's religious and historical identity is deeply linked to Saint Piat, whose relics are kept in the beautiful 13th-century Collegiate Church of Saint-Piat. One of its most significant architectural landmarks is the Hôpital Notre-Dame, founded in 1246 by Marguerite de Constantinople, Countess of Flanders. This site remains one of the best-preserved examples of medieval hospital architecture in Europe. Geographically, Seclin sits on a fertile plain that supported a strong agricultural economy before the Industrial Revolution introduced large-scale textile and sugar production in the 19th century. Modern Seclin capitalizes on its strategic location near the Lille-Lesquin airport and its excellent connections to major transport routes like the A1 motorway. The city takes great pride in its Flemish heritage, which is celebrated through local festivals and the careful preservation of its historic urban fabric. Today, it serves as a key economic and residential hub within the Lille European Metropolis, balancing tradition with industrial innovation.
