Doullens, located in the heart of Picardy, is a town of outstanding historical importance. Its position on the Authie River made it a key strategic point for centuries on the border between the Kingdom of France and the Spanish Netherlands. The massive citadel, built under Francis I and later reinforced by Vauban, is one of the best-preserved examples of early modern military architecture in Northern France. Doullens achieved world-historical significance on March 26, 1918, when General Foch was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Allied forces during a dramatic conference at the town hall to halt the German advance. Today, Doullens is a peaceful regional center that cherishes its cultural heritage. The town gives a blend of historical architecture, such as the Saint-Pierre church, and green landscapes along the Authie valley. Its economy is characterized by agriculture, local crafts, and growing cultural tourism, attracting visitors from across Europe interested in the history of the world wars.
