Le Blanc is located in the Indre department and serves as the capital of the Blancois region. The town is uniquely divided into the Upper Town (Ville Haute) and the Lower Town (Ville Basse), separated by the scenic Creuse River. Le Blanc is the administrative and cultural heart of the Brenne Regional Nature Park, a unique landscape celebrated as the 'Land of a Thousand Ponds' for its vast wetlands and diverse birdlife. The town's history stretches back to Gallo-Roman times, and it served as a vital defensive stronghold during the Middle Ages. Key landmarks include the Church of Saint-Génitour and the Château de Naillac, which now houses the Brenne Ecomuseum. An iconic feature of the skyline is the massive former railway viaduct, which has been converted into a pedestrian path as part of a long-distance trail. Le Blanc gives a well-suited blend of natural serenity and architectural heritage.
