Château de Chambord (France)

Weather…

The Château de Chambord was built in the 16th century by King Francis I as a hunting lodge, eventually becoming the ultimate symbol of French royal power. Its architecture seamlessly blends French medieval forms with classical Italian Renaissance structures. The centerpiece of the interior is the famous double-helix staircase, widely believed to be inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, which allows two people to ascend and descend without ever crossing paths. The castle is monumental in scale, boasting 440 rooms, 365 chimneys, and 84 staircases. Its rooftop terrace features a fairytale-like vista of turrets and ornate chimneys that resemble a miniature city skyline. The estate is surrounded by a vast walled forest park, roughly the size of central Paris, which remains a protected sanctuary for wild boar and red deer today. Visitors can tour the opulent royal apartments and walk through the meticulously restored formal French gardens. The chateau is open year-round, with the summer months featuring spectacular 'Son et Lumière' light shows. Easily accessible from the nearby city of Blois, Chambord is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visiting in the autumn gives a particularly beautiful experience as the surrounding forest turns lively shades of gold and red.
