Scaër is a quintessential Breton town located in the inland part of the Finistère department, offering a rugged and authentic experience of the Cornouaille region. It is remarkably vast, covering over 117 square kilometers, making it one of the largest municipalities in Brittany. This expanse is largely covered by the majestic Coëtloc'h forest, a remnant of the ancient woodland that once covered the entire peninsula. The town is widely known as a stronghold of Breton identity, particularly through the practice of Gouren wrestling and the preservation of the Breton language in daily life. Every two years, the town hosts the 'Cavalcade de Scaër', a massive carnival that has been a local tradition since 1923, drawing crowds from across France. The transformation of disused railway lines into 'Voies Vertes' (Greenways) has made Scaër a prime destination for long-distance hikers and cyclists looking to explore the heart of Brittany. Its economy remains rooted in the land, with a strong emphasis on sustainable forestry and diverse farming practices.
