Landivisiau, located in the historic province of Leon in Finistère, is a town defined by its rich agricultural heritage and strategic military importance. Historically, it rose to wealth during the Renaissance through the 'linen cycle,' when the area produced high-quality fabrics exported across the Atlantic. This wealth funded the elaborate religious architecture known as the 'Enclos Paroissiaux' found in neighboring villages. However, Landivisiau's primary claim to fame is its status as the horse capital of Brittany. For centuries, its fairs were the beating heart of the Breton horse trade, a legacy celebrated today at the Equi-Pôle, a modern equestrian center. The town also hosts the Landivisiau Naval Air Station, established in 1965, which is the operational base for the French Navy's carrier-borne fighter jets. This blend of traditional rural life and cutting-edge military aviation gives the town a unique character. Visitors are drawn to its historic fountain, its lively markets, and its proximity to the remarkable landscapes of the Armorique Regional Natural Park.
