Seloncourt is a significant industrial and residential town in the Doubs department of eastern France, within the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Set in the Gland river valley, it is a vital part of the Montbéliard urban area. The town’s history is famously intertwined with the industrial revolution; it was a leading center for watchmaking components and, most notably, the birthplace of the French bicycle industry under the influence of the Peugeot family. Several historic factories and bourgeois residences from the 19th century still define the town's architectural character. Geographically, Seloncourt serves as a gateway to the Jura mountains and is situated very close to the Swiss border, which continues to influence its local economy and culture. Today, the town has successfully transitioned into a modern community known for its high standard of living, beautiful parks like the Parc de la Cité, and a bustling cultural scene. It remains a key location for precision engineering while offering a peaceful environment surrounded by lush forests and hills.
