Le Chambon-Feugerolles is a key municipality in the Loire department, situated in the Ondaine valley southwest of Saint-Étienne. Historically, the town was a vital center for the French industrial revolution, dominated by coal mines and large-scale steel works. The dual name reflects the 1832 merger of Le Chambon and the barony of Feugerolles. The most significant historical site is the Château de Feugerolles, an impressive fortress-turned-manor that has been held by the same family for centuries and overlooks the valley. Since the closure of the mines in the mid-20th century, the city has successfully pivoted toward modern manufacturing and service sectors. It is characterized by its hilly terrain, traditional workers' housing, and its location within the perimeter of the Pilat Regional Natural Park, providing a balance between its industrial heritage and outdoor recreational opportunities.
