Bron is a key component of the Lyon Metropolis, located immediately to the east of Lyon city proper. The town's modern identity was forged in the early 20th century with the establishment of its airfield, which served as Lyon's primary airport until the 1970s and remains active for private and business aviation. Today, Bron is recognized as a major educational and healthcare hub. It hosts the sprawling 'Porte des Alpes' campus of the Lumière University Lyon 2, which shapes the local cultural and economic landscape. Additionally, Bron is home to several specialized hospitals, making it a critical center for medical research and treatment in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The urban layout of the city is a mix of high-density residential areas and expansive green spaces, most notably the Parc de Parilly, which covers 178 hectares and includes a horse racing track and professional sports facilities. Economically, Bron's location at the crossroads of major highways (A43 and A46) makes it a preferred site for logistics and service industries. The city has successfully integrated modern public transport, specifically the Lyon tramway system, ensuring seamless connectivity for its residents and students.
